after 2 years...

i want to fall in love again
i want so much to move on
i don't want to live in the shadows of the past anymore
i let so many opportunities pass me by because i didn't feel ready. i was afraid that i'd hurt someone or be hurt
but i think i've done all the healing that i can by myself
i'm finally ready

Olympics Swimming: 400 freestyle relay

This was the most amazing men's swimming relay I've seen. Initially France was talking smack about the US team saying they would "smash the Americans" and they were ahead by a length for 7/8 laps. Then in the last lap the US anchor, Jason Lezak, rode the wave produced by the French anchor, closing the distance and managed to be neck to neck at the very end. The clock showed that the US won by 0.08 of a second, securing Michael Phelps' 2nd gold medal. This will probably go down as one of the greatest moments in Olympic history. :awed:

Life is but a series of coincidences

So I was coming back from the bathroom at this restaurant in Chinatown (it's called Joy Tsin Lau if you are ever in Philly) and I hear someone calling my name. I turn around, and it turned out to be Mr. Alex Huang! It turns out he was eating with his family and his gf.  ;)

Today I learned to navigate the SEPTA system and rode the bus from 37th and Spruce to Edgeley fields in Fairmount Park for an ultimate frisbee game. When I got to the fields, I thought this girl looked really familiar, and it turned out that we had known each other from Amherst frisbee summer camp from 6 years ago! What a small world. The team I picked up with today had one of the best team dynamics I've ever been on, and we won the game as well. I hope I can play with them in the future, speaking of which, I need to register and hopefully get off the PADA waitlist...

Philly is getting better these days. I am meeting up, coincidentally or not, with a lot of really old friends whom I haven't seen in years. I am getting settled into my lab, and I really like my PI and am learning to navigate through the lab politics. My project isn't going that smoothly which is frustrating but I hope we'll have figured things out by the end of this week. The food is awesome (good and cheap and everywhere) in Philadelphia and transportation is easy too (lots of free Penn/hospital shuttles like Hopkins). Every night is filled with labwork, reading, studying, meeting up with people. However, it still doesn't feel like home (yet?).

First day of doing pediatric research in Philly.

I realized I don't want to be a pediatrician anymore.
